How do I take care of my Iaito?

After each use, clean the blade surface with a soft cloth or a tissue paper to remove dusts, fingerprints and any marks. Wipe the blade upward, one way, starting from the base to avoid any injury.

If you wish to use Uchiko powder and Choji oil, squeeze the Uchiko lightly and pat it on the back of your hand until the powder starts to come out smoothly before powdering. Powder the whole blade in a light patting motion. Use a new different sheet of soft tissue paper or Nuguigami, to dust off the powder. Wipe the powder off the blade surface in the same matter described previously and repeat it a couple of times. Soak a new soft cloth in the Choji oil and spread it thinly and evenly on the blade surface.
